Description
13HRP-0097, designated MicroWave Relic, is a large, cube-like object resembling a crude microwave oven. The MicroWave Relic shows corrosion, blackened patches, and unfamiliar glyphs etched into its shell. Although it looks modern, records and inscriptions indicate the relic originates from the late 13 AD period of the Mirror World. Therefore, the MicroWave Relic may be older and stranger than assumed.
The artifact drifts along coastlines, floating just above the surface of the water. The MicroWave Relic never sinks, regardless of weight or tide. Furthermore, it emits a faint hum that echoes like a low chant, accompanied by sporadic flashes of green light from within its cavity. Consequently, travelers often mistake the MicroWave Relic for a lighthouse or signal flare until closer inspection reveals the danger.
Known Properties
- Gamma Radiation: The MicroWave Relic constantly releases dangerous levels of gamma radiation. As a result, it creates irradiated zones along the coasts it drifts past, driving both wildlife and humans away.
- Heat Effect: Objects within 30m rapidly heat, sometimes igniting spontaneously. In many cases, fish and seabirds near the MicroWave Relic cook alive mid-flight or mid-swim, leaving behind scorched remains that drift ashore.
- Spatial Flickers: Occasionally the MicroWave Relic opens its door, but instead of revealing an interior, it displays a shifting void of static light. Items drawn inside vanish completely, and no recovery attempt succeeds.
- Temporal Residue: Shoreline observers report visions of feasts, kitchens, and rituals whenever the MicroWave Relic passes. In addition, these visions come with distorted sizzling sounds, as though the air itself fries.
Containment Procedures
- Direct capture cannot succeed; therefore, the MicroWave Relic drifts freely along coasts under strict surveillance.
- Shoreline areas must be evacuated when the MicroWave Relic approaches to prevent mass casualties.
- Drones are authorized for tracking; however, no attempt should be made to enter the MicroWave Relic’s cavity, since every effort results in failure.
Recovery Notes
Fishermen first reported “the oven that cooks the sea.” Subsequent surveys confirmed the MicroWave Relic’s existence. Entire stretches of coastline showed scorched black after its passage. Moreover, interception attempts ended in total drone failure due to radiation overload, which demonstrated the MicroWave Relic’s resilience.
