13HRP – 0091 – Rainbow Rabbit
Object Class: Orange Tier — Anomalous Wildlife / Environmental Companion
Alternate Names: “Prism Hare,” “Spectrum Bunny,” “The Rat Camp Mascot”
Description
13HRP-0091, designated Rainbow Rabbit, is a small lagomorph resembling a domestic rabbit but covered in vividly multicolored fur that shifts like an oil slick. Under sunlight, its coat refracts light into dazzling rainbow patterns; under moonlight, the colors dim to muted pastels that shimmer faintly. Consequently, the creature always radiates a surreal presence in its environment.
The Rainbow Rabbit behaves non-aggressively, typically foraging near the borders of the Rat Man Camps. However, despite appearing harmless, its close association with Rat Man populations raises concerns about ecological and anomalous cross-contamination. Therefore, researchers continue to stress cautious observation.
Observed Behaviors
- Burrow Sharing: The Rainbow Rabbit frequently digs small tunnels near Rat Man camps and sometimes enters the larger tunnels of the Rat Men themselves. Moreover, it shows no fear when mingling with them.
- Food Interaction: It consumes discarded scraps from Rat Men meals, yet it does not seem to require typical biological sustenance. As a result, its survival raises questions about its true nature.
- Cognitive Effect: Prolonged viewing induces a mild sense of joy or nostalgia, often described as “the last memory of something innocent.” Additionally, some personnel report finding this disarming in otherwise hostile zones.
- Protective Herding: Rat Men gently guide Rainbow Rabbits away from harm, suggesting either reverence or mutual coexistence. Furthermore, these actions hint at an unusual bond between species.
Anomalous Properties
- Fur samples taken from Rainbow Rabbits lose color within 24 hours, turning dull grey. Consequently, preservation attempts always fail.
- The fur emits low-frequency sound when stroked, detectable only by audio equipment. Interestingly, the patterns resemble distorted lullabies.
- Direct contact makes some handlers dream of colorful fields overrun by rats wearing crowns. In addition, many wake with lingering emotions of peace mixed with unease.
Containment Procedures
- No capture attempts are authorized; staff must only monitor Rainbow Rabbits.
- Teams must maintain visual logs from a distance of at least 15 meters. Moreover, rotations are required to prevent fixation.
- Staff should record Rat Man behavioral shifts in correlation with rabbit activity, since patterns may reveal deeper connections.
Recovery / First Report
Hollow scouts first documented Rainbow Rabbits near a Rat Man settlement by the Mirror Swamps. A cluster nested directly outside the camp, unbothered by human or Rat Man presence. When approached, they hopped deeper into the settlement, where Rat Men shielded them. Consequently, this behavior suggested the creatures integrate into Rat Man society rather than survive by chance.
Directive – Grand Council of Xikeony (Seal)
“Record its colors faithfully, for one day they may fade.”
— Grand Council of Xikeony, Statement 91.Ψ
“Mark 0091 as innocence misplaced. The Rainbow Rabbit lives among hunger and plague, yet remains untouched. Therefore, do not harm. Do not capture. It is a reminder that even in the Rat Camps, not all things gnaw.”
