Description:
13HRP – 0072 – Goggles of Madness is a pair of brass-and-leather goggles with oily, iridescent lenses that warp and shimmer like liquid soap films. Prolonged exposure destabilizes the human mind, and therefore drives wearers into violent insanity while also causing irreversible neurological collapse. The Goggles of Madness remain one of the most feared cognitive hazards due to their unpredictable nature.
When worn, the Goggles of Madness overwrite the wearer’s visual cortex with impossible data. Consequently, this triggers Insanity Loss Syndrome (ILS), a degenerative condition that follows three phases:
Object Class: Red Tier – Cognitive Hazard / Reality Distortion
- Phase I (0–30s): Wearer sees faint reflections of themselves moving out of sync. Moreover, a buttery film coats the inner eyelids. Subjects complain of blurred vision and “yellow dripping,” all directly tied to the Goggles of Madness effect.
- Phase II (1–5m): Cognitive breakdown intensifies. Eyes secrete liquid butter that streams down the wearer’s cheeks, soaking clothing. In addition, subjects insist the butter is “alive” and whispering. Hallucinations escalate into visions of giant dairy idols and Hollow clowns scooping butter from their sockets, showing how the Goggles of Madness manipulate perception.
- Phase III (5–15m): Permanent transformation occurs. Eyes fully dissolve into semi-solid churns of butter, described as “slabs sliding in the sockets.” Eventually, the subject loses all capacity for normal function, screaming phrases such as “the churn never stops” or “spread me across the mirror world.” Removing the Goggles of Madness at this stage offers no relief—the butter secretion continues until death.
Recovery Log:
Investigators recovered the Goggles of Madness from beneath a butter-stained altar inside Site-██. Soon after arrival, they discovered the original host body had collapsed into a puddle of salted liquid, still steaming. However, the Goggles of Madness remained intact, though their lenses dripped with congealed butter that floated upward.
Containment Notes:

- Furthermore, store the Goggles of Madness inside a triple-sealed refrigerated case at -20°C.
- Butter secreted during experiments shows mild sentience, and it consistently crawls back toward the Goggles of Madness when separated.
